Spring 2014 Trending Colors in Fashion

31 Mar

This spring, we’re seeing metallics, classic black and white, and soft pastels mixed with loud colors and prints. This does not mean you have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. But by updating your jewelry collection, you can tie together any look while being on trend. What this spring will also prove is that accessories are happening in a very big way. With the help of Pantone’s Fashion Color Report Spring 2014, we will show you how to bling out your wardrobe this spring:

Behind the Scenes of a Fashion Photo Shoot

24 Mar

Recently, Sweet Bling was invited to participate in a high fashion photo shoot for Studio Savvy in Rancho Santa Fe, California. My good friend, Jody Pinchin of Jody Lynn Photography invited me (Sweet Bling) to join her and Deena Von Yokes in what turned out to be a fabulous day of styling. Under the direction of Stylist and founder of Studio Savvy Salons, Deena Von Yokes, we worked to create several looks for the model.

Deena selected clothing and backdrops to style the model — carefully directing hair and makeup. I had the fun job of selecting jewelry for each look. We moved from one setting to another in the elegant Le Dimora furniture store. Each setting was a new backdrop for model Cierra Flower. We started off with a contemporary backdrop of black and white umbrellas, where Cierra posed elegantly in a geometric print dress and Sweet Bling Black and Crystal Spike Dangle Earrings. In each of the settings, Deena worked her magic, turning Cierra into a fun-loving socialite in an animal print dress to a sweet and playful young lady in bouncy curls wearing a white blazer and pouty pink lips. I accessorized the animal print with our Leopard Necklace and the playful pink look with our Fuchsia Jewel Necklace. In additional looks, Cierra looked like a regal lady in an era gone by wearing our Blue Deco Earrings and a woman of substance in a brown leather sofa wearing one of our long Nakamol necklaces.

This photo shoot was a team effort directed by Von Yokes. Everyone brought something to the table and made it a fun, successful day. Jody Pinchin of Jody Lynn Photography snapped photos and produced a behind the scenes video. Talented makeup artist Eileen Haligowski of Mirror Mirror On The Wall transformed Cierra’s looks via her makeup. Others that were part of the team Sheree Vihon of TRE Boutique, Maria Berry of Le Dimora Fine Furniture Store and Valentine Studios.

Alas, the day was over and our fun day of dress up had to come to a close. For these featured pieces and more selections, check out Sweet Bling here. Also subscribe to the Sweet Bling youtube channel for a behind the scenes look.

The Impact of Black

17 Mar

Black is the darkest of colors, often associated with power, influence, mystery, magic, secrets, or elegance. In fashion, many of these associations carry over. I’m sure every girl would love to appear mysterious, powerful, and elegant simultaneously. Forever a go-to, black  is what to wear when nothing else will do. There is no personal style or closet that excludes this color.

Among the many vibrant colors available at Sweet Bling, we also embrace black jewelry selections. Here are Sweet Bling’s new favorite choices for black:

The Black Flower Earrings on a gold tone backing. These also identify with the blooming floral trend.

Wear your black accessories:

With White/Black and White: Black and white is timeless pairing. Minimal effort for a look that will be undeniably chic. Although a classic, this match is especially gaining momentum in fashion for 2014.

With Light Colors/Pastels: Like with white, wearing your black accessories with light colors creates a bold contrast.

With Bright Colors/Patterns: 2014 fashion is heavy with bright colors, prints, and color blocking. Whether your pattern is soft or has hints of black, add on your dark accessories for emphasis.

With Black: Black on black—a combination designers will never cease to use. Sometimes black is your mood, a desire to look clean yet edgy. Or maybe you just want simplicity when stepping into your closet. Whatever your reason, all black is unquestionably flawless.

The Tortoise Shell Breakthrough

10 Mar

Tortoise shell is an old classic pattern that has made an appearance here and there on our sunglasses and handbag embellishments. This pattern has been hidden from the spotlight behind the raging new florals, patterns, and bright colors that have consumed attention.

Now tortoise shell has made a dazzling comeback with a very modern take on accessories. We’ve seen this look blossom through Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, and Ralph Lauren, among others. Tortoise shell provides a neutral color option, making it simple to throw on with a variety of outfits. But unlike a basic neutral, the classic pattern adds interest with an intriguing statement of its own. To add this trend to your collection, check out these Sweet Bling picks:

Blue Jeans and White Tee Flare

3 Mar

Oh the timeless and classic look of blue jeans with a white shirt. What would we do without you? There are even countless songs dedicated to “Blue Jeans and White T-shirts,” it is so flawless. This look is ever transforming with a long history but the basic elements stand—blue denim with white. This can be your oldest pair of over-worn cut denim shorts from the 10th grade, a men’s white v-neck tee with Ray-bans and Chuck Taylors. Or this can be fabulous fit designer jeans, a detailed cream tunic with studded boots and bright, extravagant accessories. However it is styled, it will forever be an all time favorite across the board.

Today for a modern twist on blue jeans with white, we tie in a must have piece, the Sweet Bling Candy Pearl Leather Wrap Bracelet. This bracelet features light brown leather adorned with candy colored pearls and crystals. With its mix of various colors, this piece will fit perfectly into many looks. Now we will focus on its appeal to the classic blue jeans and white combination. What both have in common is an elegant casualness. Looking at this beautiful wrap bracelet, it certainly isn’t simple. But it brings an effortless yet put together flare on a classic style.

Here, the wrap bracelet is styled with light blue, faded, and destroyed skinny jeans with a flowy ivory top and of course, tousled hair. There is something very iconic about ripped jeans. And nothing says effortless like embracing those natural tangles in your hair. For colder weathers, add some boots and a leather or canvas jacket.

A Sweet Mix of Metals– the Layered Chain Collar

26 Feb

Recently, we talked statement necklace. What’s incredible about this style is that your closet can be filled with neutrals and basics. But suddenly your simple leggings and tee becomes a complete look with the addition of a statement collar. Or if your closet is filled with colors and prints, a statement piece can amp up your look. This spring Sweet Bling is no stranger to bringing you this statement.

We have metal on the mind with this Sweet Bling statement collar. What we dig about this piece is it features silver, gold, and dark crystals. Choosing a bracelet, ring, or earrings to pair with this look would be no trouble. When it comes to choosing clothing, wear with black and white, or your wildest of patterns. The mix of metals gives you endless pairing alternatives.

Here, I’m heading out to dinner with friends, full of laughter. I chose to wear this piece with a high collared sheer white tank and black skinny cropped pants. My closet is filled with black and white. This look would be a classic paired with some fun flats. But for me, I like adding a bit of an edge with my black leather Steve Madden Troopa lace-up boots.

New York Fashion Week 2014 Makes a Statement

20 Feb

New York Fashion Week has reached its close. We were given a preview of what Fall 2014 will have to offer. Statement necklaces are hitting lines with a boom. Heart and Gamble came to the runway with bright laser cut jewelry pieces extending beyond shoulder width and covering the chest—solely works of art, with no intentions of reaching the streets. But what we can draw from these looks is neutral clothing with a bright pop of color in a jewelry piece is a must do. We can also thank Nicole Miller for presenting beads and layering among black necklaces with a more ready to wear objective on top of her dark clothing designs. Roberto Cavalli also truly mesmerized with his repetitive use of gold, texture, and extravagant patterns in his sparkling clothing pieces. Not stopping there, Cavalli completed many looks with heavy metal, gold necklaces and collars. The common theme—statement necklace. Now we watch for London, Milan, and Paris! Au revoir!

Chanel Punk Backpack

Chanel Punk Backpack

This punk inspired bricolage backpack from Chanel is featured in the January 2014 issue of Vogue. The seemingly DIY graffiti spray painted canvas tote from Karl Lagerfeld’s spring collection is brilliant. Woven ropes, heavy chain and a leather luggage tag all grace the muted colors on this $3,400 gem. But you don’t have to break the bank on these two bracelets from sweetbling.com. Peach Gold Snap Bracelet ($18) and our Gold and Crystal Ivory Leather Wrap Bracelet ($42).

Secret Message Charm

Secret Message Charm

About two years ago, I met a mom named Lisa at a neighborhood party. She heard that I make sterling silver hand stamped jewelry and asked me to make a charm with a special scrambled message for her daughter, Julia, who was a freshman in college — far from home. The message was “LOVE MOM.” She felt that it wouldn’t be obvious to others what the message was and the message would be their secret — unless her daughter chose to tell someone who asked about it. Two years later (October of 2013), I get a call from Lisa. Julia had called her in tears because she lost the necklace. Lisa knew Julia liked the necklace, and that she wore it almost all the time, but she didn’t realize how much the necklace meant to Julia until it was gone. Of course, Lisa’s heart broke when she heard her daughter sobbing about losing the necklace, she also felt a twinge of happiness knowing the necklace was so important to Julia (something Julia had never vocalized). So, this is the second version of the Secret Message Charm.

If you would like a unique charm designed for you, email us at info@sweetbling.com or call 1-866-797-3319.

Bling on the Holidays with Sweet Bling

We love bling all year long — but the holidays give us a good excuse to adorn ourselves in head to toe bling. This Leopard Necklace looks great with a print dress like this one or a simple black dress. And our Bling Bling Crystal Earrings add a touch of elegance to any outfit. Finish off the look with our Crystal Studded Stretch Bracelet — and you are all set.
